A Word About...

I don't like it when people tell me they can't cook. If you don't cook, or won't cook, that's fine with me. I don't knit, so I get where you're coming from. But can't cook? No such thing. You don't have to cook, you just have to make something to eat. To be able to cook does not mean you've earned a white hat or a Red Seal. It's a matter of combining some things that taste good together and putting them on a plate. Nobody will judge you if it's not gourmet perfection. I suspect that when people say they can't cook, what they really mean is that they've never really learned their way around a kitchen and they are afraid to try their hand.

Or perhaps what these people need is A Word About. That is to say, some helpful hints about this and that, which might in time help boost your confidence. Today, by request, I present A Word About storing produce. In the works are A Word About rice, reading recipes, and baking. As I've stated before, I'm not a trained chef, so there are no formal lessons on offer here, just information I've gleaned over the years, all of it tried at Chateau Claire and true.

If you're bothered by a particular ingredient, recipe or procedure, click on Contact Claire and send me your question. I'm not often short of A Word About something.

And sometimes when you think you can't, all you need is the right word.
